Thyroid conditions are becoming more and more common, and they can be a huge struggle to overcome. Even after proper medication, many people still suffer from hypothyroid and Hashimoto’s symptoms such as:

  • Fatigue
  • Weight gain
  • Unrefreshing sleep with chronic tiredness
  • Hair loss and brittle nails
  • Dry skin
  • Sensitivity to cold
  • Sexual dysfunction
  • High cholesterol
  • Constipation
  • Etc.

I should know, I suffered with hypothyroidism for years.

My Story

I got diagnosed with hypothyroidism when I was 19, just out of high school.

My numbers weren’t all that bad in the beginning, but I started feeling a level of fatigue that I knew wasn’t right at my age. Being male, 19 years old, and in pretty good physical shape, my primary care doctor did NOT want to run thyroid labs on me. Finally, I convinced him, and I’m glad I did. My active thyroid hormone was just passed the lowest end of the range!

His solution: put me on thyroid medication for life to replace what my body apparently couldn’t create on it’s own.

I did not accept this answer. At the time, I had no idea what else to do, so I just procrastinated. I didn’t do anything besides get follow up lab checks every year.

Every year, my thyroid labs continually and consistently got worse and worse.

My biggest symptom was fatigue. I was fatigued all day long from when I woke up until I went to bed, and God help me if I got less than 8 hours of sleep. Usually I needed 9-10 hours to function decently well.

My Journey

Going through my undergraduate degrees in Math and Physics taught me an invaluable skill that sent me on a path of searching: being able to read and interpret scientific literature very effectively.

Starting from my last couple years in college, I starting digging through research HARD. If you’ve seen my articles on my website or my Instagram posts, you’ll know that I’m a huge research junkie. I would routinely spend 6-8 hours a day sometimes doing nothing but reading research.

I did this out of necessity. There was so much contradictory advice out there by “experts” about what to do for a low thyroid, and I wasn’t getting any results.

After spending an extraordinary about of time learning all I could about how the thyroid worked and what successful treatments existed in the literature (and through some trial and error on myself), I finally pieced together a protocol that allowed my symptoms to fade and all my numbers to get into the “normal” range, and all without medication.

After going through my Chiropractic Doctorate program as well as a Functional Medicine program, I deeply want to help others improve the quality of their lives by helping them improve their thyroid condition.
